Owing to their distinctive properties, engineered copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) are increasingly used in myriad applications, including agriculture. Inevitably, a portion of CuNPs will escape to water bodies during production and utilization of CuNP-containing products. Exposure to CuNPs can lead to many detrimental effects in the exposed aquatic animals. Parastoo is working towards her PhD and focuses on the comparative molecular, cellular, histopathological, neurophysiological, and behavioural impacts of CuNPs and copper ions on rainbow trout olfaction. Her study aims to investigate the mechanisms underlying the copper-induced olfactory dysfunction in fish.
