Who I Am: A Short Version
I'm mostly a philosopher of science who works on the philosophies of physics and ecology, with occasional excursions into logic. I also have strong interests in the metaphysics of time, environmental ethics, professional ethics, ancient philosophy, the nature of ingenuity and creativity, and the complex of challenges flowing out of humanity's current ecological crisis. I believe passionately that philosophy is not merely an exercise in idle curiosity, but (if done well) a vitally important tool for human survival.
If I had a motto, it might be the following statement by Ed Ricketts and John Steinbeck (from Log from the Sea of Cortez, 1951):
"...there can be no 'answer.' There can be only pictures which become larger and more significant as one's horizon increases."
