      • Formicid ant clinging to a petal of a vetch in Cypress Hills Park. The brain of this ant is infected with larvae of the trematode Dicrocoelium dendriticum (photo by Andy Hurly).

      • Leopard frog with an extra hindlimb induced by infection with larvae of the trematode Ribeiroia sp.
      • An experimental shoal of fathead minnows. The brains of these hosts are infected with larvae of a trematode, Ornithodiplostomum ptychocheilus. This host/parasite interaction is one of the main models that we study in the lab and in the field.
      • Populations of western tiger salamanders in southern Alberta are threatened by infection with an emerging virus known as ATV, or Ambystoma tigrinum virus.
      • Terrestrial snails, Oreohelix spp., in Cypress Hills Park in southeastern Alberta. Some species of snail in this genus are threatened in Alberta.

    University of Queensland 2017

    A few photos of my recent visit to Dr. Vera Weisbecker's lab at the University of Queensland. Had a great time with her and learned a lot about imaging and how ****ing long it takes to render digital endocasts of parrots. It was also pleasant to be at a real university, especially one with impressive buildings and an array of birds, especially lorikeets and currawongs.
